There's more to the beginning of the universe than a loud noise

The Cosmogenic Collective

In April 2011, a group of intrepid explorers set out in the Discovery Bus, boldly going where some of us had never been before – the outer reaches of Dumfries and Galloway. But what I was referring to was the strange places we travelled to in our minds, into a world of quantum mechanics, quark-gluon plasma, and other odd phenomena.

Our two guides were Norman Gray (Glasgow based astrophysicist), and David Sobral (observational cosmologist), there to lay down the foundations for the rest of us, who were storytellers and writers, some with backgrounds in drama and others in bioelectronics. The workshop took place over a weekend in the Dumfries and Galloway Astronomy Centre, a cosy B&B that conveniently has a very large telescope in an outhouse in the garden. Unconveniently, it was cloudy that weekend.

So we learnt, we discussed, we came up with ideas, we started turning them into stories, we even had a walk and ate some fish and chips, all in a couple of days work. It was a very concentrated period of time, but we had fun, and hope you have enjoyed the results on this site.

Furthermore, this is not a finished thing! There is always room to expand. If you are a writer or an illustrator, and you feel that something on this site has made you want to respond somehow, then get it down and get in touch by leaving a comment below.

The world hopes for even more passionate writers like you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe.
